Melissa Adams
Clinical Social Worker
Melissa Adams, LCSW, LIMHP
I provide individual, marital and family therapy in a private practice setting. My areas of specialty include family violence, recovery from abuse, anxiety disorders, behavior disorders in children and divorced and blended families.
I have extensive training and experience in working with victims of domestic violence, their abusive partners, and children living in violent homes. I have worked as a court advocate for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes.
I have worked with children from ages 18 months to 19 years old, dealing with disruptive behaviors, anger problems, respect for authority and self esteem improvement. I have formal training in the areas of play therapy and behavior disorders, as well as trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy for children and adolescents.
I have a special fondness for blended families. Having grown up in a large, blended family myself, I enjoy helping families work together toward healthy bonding and blending, while maintaining loving relationships with all parties involved. Many times, after the pain of divorce, it is especially challenging to incorporate all parents, step parents, siblings, half-siblings, step siblings, grandparents, and other extended family into a cohesive group that encourages all members to grow and be productive. Assisting families in creating their own unique family composition as they blend is truly a fantastic journey – one that I am pleased to be a part of for many families.
